SÚRAO has published its methodology for the selection of the final and backup sites for the Czech deep geological repository
The Radioactive Waste Repository Authority (SÚRAO) has published its methodology for the selection of the final and backup sites for the deep geological repository to be constructed in the Czech Republic. This procedural document forms the methodological basis for the objective, expert-based and transparent selection of two suitable sites.
The selection process for the final and backup sites will be completed by 2030 in accordance with the strategic plans of the Czech Republic and international requirements concerning ensuring the long-term safety of the repository.
The selection process is being supervised by the Expert Advisory Panel (II), an independent advisory body that reports to SÚRAO’s Managing Director and which consists of experts nominated by various institutions and the public in the affected areas.
The methodology is available for download here.
