Delegates from the Czech Republic attend the 2026 Waste Management Symposia
Together with our founding organisation, the Czech Ministry of Industry and Trade, SÚRAO represented the Czech Republic at this year’s Waste Management (WM) Symposia international conference held in Phoenix, USA.
Presentations by Lukáš Vondrovic, Markéta Dohnálková and Martina Bílá addressed the current situation regarding the Czech deep geological repository (DGR) development programme, specific aspects of the safety assessment of the future repository and the use of so-called “perceptions maps” for involving local people in the design and location of the surface complexes of the DGR at the four candidate sites.
Tomáš Rosendorf, who represented the Ministry of Industry and Trade, subsequently presented the Radioactive Waste Management in the Czech Republic Policy. SÚRAO’s Managing Director, Lukáš Vondrovic, also addressed a panel of Finnish delegates to the conference on the results of expert cooperation between the two countries to date.
The WM Symposia is one of the most important international conferences in terms of the management of radioactive waste, spent nuclear fuel and the decommissioning of nuclear facilities. This annual event provides an opportunity for experts from industry, government and research organisations and regulatory authorities to exchange information and experience at the global level.
